One of my favorite parts of the day is our nighttime routine. And no it’s not because that means our wild and sometimes feral toddler is going to bed, though there are days it is a great bonus. I love all the steps within our routine. From us sitting down together to eat dinner and then hearing the mixture of water splashing with laughter as my hubby gives our baby girl a bath. To getting her into her jammies and picking out a book for us to read with her. To the sounds of her having her nighttime bottle. To brushing her teeth and the way she likes to lean her head on my shoulder as we do so. Onto our snuggles as we say our prayers, singing a lullaby and then laying her into her crib.
And yes there are days where parts of the routine are switched around or completely removed, depending on the time and level of sleepiness. One part of the routine that doesn’t change or get removed is our snuggles and prayers together, and I love that part the most. Though most nights Allie is rolling around like an alligator. It is nice to give the space and pause in our days for snuggles and for my hubby and I to pray over our baby girl, as well as, encourage her to speak to Jesus. And she does, though most of it is gibberish, I am sure Jesus understands her no problem.
Every night I pray over Allie for the Lord’s protection over her mind, body, heart, and soul. I pray that we are able to lay a strong foundation in the Lord that she can fall back on, all the days of her life. I ask for wisdom and discernment for both of us in raising Allie, to help her become all that God has created her to be. And most importantly, out of all the goals and achievements Allie will accomplish in her life, may her greatest treasure be her relationship with the Lord and living her life for Him.
No matter how crazy Allie may be thrashing and bouncing around during our prayer/snuggle time, these are requests that I don’t forget to ask of the Lord. He knows our baby far better than we ever could, and neither one of us wants to try to raise her within our own abilities. I can’t count the ways God has granted me His wisdom with Allie already and she is only 15 months. Even more importantly though, it renews my heart and mind to repeat these prayers. It reminds me that Allie is within the palm of God’s hand, as am I and my hubby. We aren’t alone in this parenting journey because we have an amazing God who wants to guide us through this season and will use our struggles for His glory and our good.
As do you! If you don’t pray over your babies, I highly encourage you to start. Find a time within the routine of your days that works best. Maybe it’s praying over your baby or babies as you get them dressed and ready for the day. Maybe it is praying over them before you lay them down for their nap. Or maybe nighttime snuggles and prayers will work for you too. However it looks, please try to incorporate prayer into your day to day. I can’t stress the comfort I find in knowing that we aren’t raising Allie on our own because we have the creator of the universe walking alongside us in this journey.
